Trust invests £600,000 in Armagh facilities

The Southern Trust has completed a £600,000 maintenance project at the historic Hill Building on the St Luke’s site in Armagh.

The work done includes a renovation of the roof and full resurfacing of an existing car park at the back of the facility.

Francis Rice, Chief Executive (Interim) for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, said:

“Some of the buildings on the St Luke’s site have been in operation for over 190 years and remain key facilities within the Trust. We want to ensure that we continue to offer a standard of safe and high quality service on the site.

“The new car park surface behind the Hill Building will also extend the life and quality of the structure as well as making the spaces clearly marked out for all staff and visitors.”

The Hill Building was originally constructed in the late 1800’s and has been key location to the Trust since its doors first opened in 1898 - originally serving as the first purpose-built hospital for acute mental health care.

The role and purpose of St Luke’s has changed over the years, but it still plays a key role within the Southern Trust. It is now home to a wide range of services including the Sensory Disability Team, Human Resources Department, Memory Team, Community Addiction Team, Promoting Wellbeing Team and Domiciliary Care Service.

Francis ended by saying: “We have currently got around 900 members of staff working on the St Luke’s site and we welcome many visitors and other staff on a daily basis so it’s essential for us to carry out regular maintenance and upgrade projects.”
