Trust health cuts are damaging and unnecessary - Brady
Newry & Armagh MP Mickey Brady has met with the Southern Trust to voice Sinn Féin's opposition to proposed cuts to local health.

Mickey Brady said:

"I questioned the Financial Director as to who sanctioned these cuts, and urged the Trust directors to meet with the Permanent Secretary of the Health Department to oppose these disastrous and unnecessary cuts."

“Sinn Féin have made it very clear that we believe these cuts are unnecessary and have called for centrally-held funds which other departments have been unable to spend for whatever reason, to be released in order to address the pressures facing front-line services.

“There are indications that may now be set to happen but there are still many questions facing the Department of Health as to why they chose to embark on such a divisive consultation process, proposing major cuts to front-line services when alternatives were available.

"It has always been Sinn Féin’s position that this was a politically-motivated and cynical exercise and it should now be ended.

"The Department should re-evaluate their overall financial position, clarify that front-line services will be protected and return to the transformation agenda set out by Michelle O'Neill as Health Minister."
