Shane O'Neill's Club Notes - 29th October 2017
U21s
Our U21 amalgamation of Patrick Rankins got their campaign off to a winning start on Sunday with a six-point win over Grange in Correnshigo, 2 – 14 to 1 – 11.

The Rankins played with a strong wind at their backs in the first-half and opened the scoring through Mark McCabe with Grange getting the next two points to edge ahead. Mark McCabe equalised before a Matthew Girvan point put the Rankins back in front again. The sides then swapped a point apiece with Eamon McCabe scoring for the home side before a fifth point for Grange put them one ahead again but three points in a row from Matthew Girvan, Mark McCabe and Ryan Quinn gave the Rankins a two-point advantage. It could have been even more minutes later but the Grange keeper made a great finger-tip save to deny Matthew Girvan from close range. This save lifted the visitors and with their next attack they registered the first goal of the contest to put them one front but Declan Loye replied for the Rankins with a well taken goal to see his side lead by two at the break, 1 – 7 to 1 – 5.

The sides shared a point each in the early stages of the second-half with Matthew Girvan firing over for the Rankins before points from Mark McCabe and Girvan again put them four to the good. Grange replied with a well taken pointed free before Mark McCabe rounded off a great Rankins move by firing the ball to the net which was quickly followed up by another Matthew Girvan point. An eight point for Grange was quickly cancelled out by an Oisin O’Callaghan score before the sides swapped another point apiece with Ryan Quinn on target for the home team. Matthew Girvan popped over his sixth point of the game to give the Rankins an eight-point lead with Grange registering the last two scores but the Rankins had done enough to claim the win, 2 – 14 to 1 – 11.
