Shane O'Neill's Club Notes - 28th May 2017

Senior Men

Our senior men’s unbeaten start to the league came to an end on Sunday when they suffered a two-point defeat at home to Mullaghbawn, 1 – 17 to 1 – 15.
The Shane’s enjoyed a great start to the game and found themselves three points to the good after ten minutes, with Paul O’Rourke getting all the scores but three points in a row from Mullaghbawn had them back on level terms. Two points in as many minutes from Connaire Mackin and David McCabe edged the Shane’s in front again but four points in four in minutes gave Mullaghbawn the lead by two. However, the lead was short-lived when a deflected shot from David McCabe made its way to his brother Mark and he made no mistake from close range, flicking the ball to the Mullaghbawn net. An eighth Mullaghbawn point had the sides level again but two late points from the Shane’s, one from Conal O’Brien and a free from Paul O’Rourke saw the home side go in at the break in front, 1 – 7 to 0 – 8.

The sides exchanged points early in the second-half with Connaire Mackin on target for the Shane’s before two points on the trot from Mullaghbawn saw them draw level once more. Another point apiece kept the sides level pegging with Sean McLoughlin getting the Shane’s score before two great points from Paul O’Rourke and a brilliant side-line free from Sean McLoughlin gave the Camlough side a three-point advantage. Mullaghbawn replied with two points of their own to leave just one between them before another pointed free from O’Rourke kept the scoreboard ticking over for the Shane’s. The sides then swapped frees with O’Rourke again on target for the Shane’s before an unfortunate mistake form the Shane’s keeper, Conor McKeown, was pounced on by Mullaghbawn and they made no mistake, driving the ball to the back of the net and put them in front by one. They added on another point almost immediately with Damian Doyle replying for the Shanes but it was Mullaghbawn who got the last score of the game to claim the win, 1 – 17 to 1 – 15.
