Shane O'Neill's Club Notes - 28th January 2018
Senior Men
Sunday afternoon saw our senior men lose out by two points to Killanny from Monaghan in a very competitive opening fixture in the Ulster Intermediate league, 1 – 10 to 0 – 11.

Played in very testing conditions Killanny were first on the scoreboard with a close-range point before Neil Paul Lennon pointed for the Shanes from a placed ball. A Kristian Magill free nudged his side ahead but Killanny replied with a pointed free of their own before Magill slotted over another placed ball to put the Shanes one in front again. Two points in a row from the away side, both from play, saw them go into the half-time interval leading by a point, 0 – 4 to 0 – 3.

The Shanes made the better start to the second-half with Michael McParland firing over to bring to the sides level before David McCabe pointed for the home side to edge them in front. Three points on the trot from Killanny saw them lead by two but the Shanes replied with three points of their own, two great long-range efforts from Connaire Mackin and a good score from Kristian Magill, to put them one to the good once more. A Killanny free levelled proceedings before they registered the only goal the game to give them a three-point advantage. The sides then swapped points with Connaire Mackin on target again before points from Micheál Brady and Kristian Magill brought the Camlough side back to within one. The Shanes had a couple chances to equalise but it was Killanny who got the last point of the game to claim the win by two, 1 – 10 to 0 – 11.

Despite the defeat, the Shanes can take a lot of positives from the game including the return of Paddy Gregory, Neil Paul Lennon, Kristian Magill, Conor O’Neill and Conor Ruddy to the senior ranks and an impressive senior debut from young Patrick Garvey. The game itself proved to be a useful workout for the lads in a very competitive environment. Next up is an away game next Sunday, 4th February against Cavan side, Laragh United at 12 noon.
