Shane O'Neill's Club Notes - 20th August 2017
Senior Men
Our senior men recorded an impressive sixteen point championship win over Derrynoose in Silverbridge last Monday night, 2 – 17 to 0 – 7.

A well taken Danny Monaghan point gave the Shane’s an early lead with Derrynoose replying almost immediately with their first point of the contest. Micheál Brady restored the Shane’s advantage and two quick points from Paul O’Rourke and Matthew Girvan increased their lead before some good work from Ryan McCabe found O’Rourke in space and he fired over for his second point of the game. The Shane’s led by four at this stage and further excellent points from Danny Monaghan and Matthew Girvan extended their advantage to six before a pointed free saw Derrynoose register their second score of the game. Paul O’Rourke kept the scoreboard ticking over for the Shane’s with a great point from a very tight angle before a brilliant ball from the hard-working Eamon McCabe found Matthew Girvan who in turn powered at the Derrynoose defence before slotting the ball over the bar for his third and his side’s ninth point of the opening half. Two late first-half points, one from a free, saw Derrynoose go into the half-time interval five points in arrears, 0 – 9 to 0 – 4.

The Shane’s made a great start to the second-half with that man Girvan firing over an early point to put his team six points to the good before two points in a row from Derrynoose reduced the deficit to just four. However the Camlough side took total control of proceedings from this point on and in the next ten minutes then added another five points to their total with Paul O’Rourke (0 – 3), Ryan Quinn and Eamon McCabe all on target. At this stage the Shane’s led by nine points and they all but sealed their win when the impressive Danny Monaghan rounded the Derrynoose keeper to send the ball to net and give his an unassailable twelve point advantage. Second-half substitute Mark McCabe then fired over from close range following a sweeping Shane’s attack before Derrynoose replied with their seventh and final point of the game. Another Mark McCabe point was quickly followed by the Shane’s second goal of the contest when David McCabe was on hand to flick the ball home and seal his side’s win on a score-line of 2 – 17 to 0 - 7.
Overall this was a very impressive performance from the Shane’s, all the more so considering that every one of their nineteen scores all came from play.

Next up is a second round tie against St Peter’s which has been scheduled for Saturday 26th August at 4:45 pm in Crossmaglen.

Senior Ladies
Our senior ladies made the trip to Clonmore last Wednesday night to take on Clann Eireann in the semi-final of the championship but unfortunately, they lost out to a very good, very strong and very slick Clann Eireann team. Despite the defeat the girls can take great heart from their performances during their first year competing in the senior championship, something which should stand them in good stead in the future. Well done to all the girls and their management team.

Minor Boys
Our minor boys’ amalgamation of Patrick Rankins put in a decent performance last Monday night to beat Silverbridge on a score-line of 0 – 17 to 0 – 14. The lads return to action on Monday evening with a championship tie against Clan na Gael in Davitt Park Lurgan at 7:30 pm and all players are asked to meet at the club no later than 6:15 pm.

U16 Boys
The U16 boys’ amalgamation of Patrick Rankins take on Keady in the semi-final of the shield on Wednesday evening at 7:15 pm in Correnshigo. All players are asked to meet at Shanes no later than 6:15 pm.
