Shane O'Neill's Club Notes - 1st Oct 2017

Minor Girls 7-Aside Blitz

Saturday saw the club host a very successful minor girls 7-aside blitz with a total of thirteen teams battling it out for the silverware: Carrickcruppen, Corofin, Magheracloone, Dromore, Emyvale, St Patricks, Cooley, Warrenpoint, Ballymaguigan, Shane O’Neill’s, Finbarrs, Killeavy and Silverbridge.

Following a great mornings football in the group and knock-out stages four teams were left standing, with host team Shane O’Neill’s taking Carrickcruppen in the shield final whilst Corofin (Galway) faced Derry side Ballymaguigan in the final of the cup. Both finals served up brilliant games of football with all four teams playing some great stuff but when the final whistles sounded Shane O’Neill’s claimed the shield win whilst Corofin picked up the cup title. Corofin player Leanne Coen was also named as the player of the tournament.

The club would like to thank all the teams who took part in the competition and helped to make it such a great success. We would also like to thank all those who helped to organise the blitz, who helped out on the day – referees, score-keepers, pitch managers, umpires, burger-makers, tea-makers, shop attendants and anyone else who helped out in any way. The club also extends its sincere gratitude to local company BM Steel who were the generous sponsors of the inaugural Shane O’Neill’s minor girls 7-aside blitz.

Minor Boys

Our minor boys’ amalgamation of Patrick Rankins was scheduled to play Maghery last Wednesday night in the Division 2 championship final. However due to the very heavy rain the game was postponed and re-fixed for this Wednesday night, 4th October at 8:15 pm in the Athletic Grounds and everyone is encouraged to come along and give the lads your support.

Minor Girls

Having defeated Cullyhanna last week our minor ladies now face Silverbridge in the shield next Sunday, 8th October at 7:30 pm in Silverbridge. Ahead of the final the girls will be training this Tuesday evening from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm at the field.

U12 Girls

Our U12 girls had a challenge at home against Keady on Sunday morning. Despite the poor weather there was excellent football on view from both sets of players. Well done to all.

U6s

U6 training has now changed to indoors in Bessbrook Community Centre starting from next Tuesday, 3rd October and will continue every Tuesday from 6 pm-7 pm. Please bring water and £1. All new and current U6s are welcome to come along, starting from 3 years old.

Underage Meeting

An underage meeting has been organised for next Monday 9th October at 8:00 pm in the club. Anyone interested in helping out in any way with any of our underage teams next year is asked to come along and make yourselves available.

A Party for Paddy

As most of you know our senior footballer Paddy Doran was seriously injured in a car accident recently. Paddy will be out of work now for the foreseeable future and the club is organising a fundraising "Party for Paddy" next Saturday night, 7th October in the Shane's clubhouse. The fantastic DJ Sammy will be providing the tunes from 8 to late and everyone is encouraged to come along to show your support for one of our own.

Annual Golf Classic

This year’s Shane O’Neill’s Annual Golf Classic will take place on Saturday 4th October in Cloverhill Golf Club. The tournament will take the format of a 3 Ball Scramble with an entry of £75.00 per 3 ball team. The winners will receive a 1 night’s Stay and Play at Slieve Russel Hotel. For further information or to book your place please contact Gareth on 0044 7810 892439.

Congratulations

Congratulations to our senior footballer Kevin McParland and his new fiancé Orla Craven who got engaged at the week-end.

Lotto

Last week’s winning lotto numbers were 5, 9, 10 & 16. There were no jackpot winners and 1 x lucky dip winner. The jackpot now stands at a very impressive £6,650 so why not get yourself a ticket…. if you’re not in, you can’t win.
