Shane O'Neill's Club Notes - 17th Sept 2017

Senior Men

Our senior men’s championship hopes ended on Friday night following a seven-point defeat to St Paul’s in Ballymacnab, 3 – 12 to 1 – 11.
The Shane’s made a terrible start to the game and after fifteen they trailed 1 – 6 to no score before a Mark McCabe point got the scoreboard moving for the Camlough side. Danny Monaghan followed this up with a well taken point before the sides swapped two points apiece with Connaire Mackin and Matthew Girvan on target for the Shane’s but the Lurgan side still led by seven at this stage. However, St Paul’s stretched their advantage when a sweeping move saw them record their second goal of the contest which they quickly followed up two further points to see them lead by twelve. The Shane’s finished the half better than they started and fired over three unanswered points, all from the boot of Matthew Girvan, to trail by nine at the break, 2- 10 to 0 – 7.

The Shane’s began the second-half where they left off in the first and kept the scoreboard ticking over with three points on the trot, with Connaire Mackin, Mark McCabe and David McCabe all on target to leave six between them. The Camlough side sensed that they were getting themselves back into contention but they were hit with a real sucker punch when St Paul’s netted their third goal of the game to put them nine in front again. Mark McCabe replied for the Shane’s with a well taken point before his brother David got on the end of a high ball to flick the ball to the net to leave just five between them with less than ten minutes on the clock. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts this proved to be the Shane’s last score of the game as St Paul’s tagged on a further two points in the dying minutes to claim a seven-point win, 3 – 12 to 1 – 11.

The Shane’s were drawn in Group 2 alongside Killean, Low Road Foughill and Meigh Village and fielded the following team: Mick Mackin, David Muckian, Connaire Mackin, Moya Feehan, Aimee Mackin, Paddy Gregory, Ciaran Mackin, Emmet Murtagh, Micheál Brady, Kevin Hughes, Oliver Cromie and former Armagh captain Ciaran McKeever. Following a number of brilliant performances, the Shane’s team made it to the semi-final before eventually losing out by a few scores.

Lotto
Last week’s winning lotto numbers were 6, 10, 25 & 29. There were no jackpot winners and 1 x lucky dip winner. The jackpot now stands at a very impressive £6,550 so why not get yourself a ticket…. if you’re not in, you can’t win.
