Shane O'Neill's Club Notes 12th Mar 2017

Senior Men

Our senior men continue to train three times per week as they continue their preparations for the upcoming season.

Senior Ladies
The senior ladies team are back in training and have three challenge games arranged in March before the league begins:
Monday 13th against Saval at St Joseph’s High school at 7.30pm.
Monday 20th an away game against Castlewellan at 7.30pm.
Monday 27th at home against Rostrevor at 6.45pm.
The league begins with a home game on Saturday April 1st against Clann Eireann at 7pm, before travelling to Dromintee the following week.

Minor Boys
Training for our minor boys continues as normal over the coming at the club.

U16 Boys
Training for the U16 boys continues on Thursday night at 6.00pm in Correnshigo. All our U16 footballers are asked to meet at the Shane's at 5.40pm sharp on Thursday evening.

U16 Girls
Circuit training for our U16 girls continues this Tuesday evening from 6.30pm to 7.45pm in Bessbrook Community Centre.

U14 Boys
Our U14 boys’ amalgamation of Patrick Rankin’s were in action against Tullysaran in the quarter-final of the Féile Shield on Saturday but unfortunately, they lost out narrowly by two points, 3 – 11 to 3 – 9. The lads began the game well and found themselves in front early on, a lead which they maintained until half-time but Tullysaran eventually edged ahead with less than ten minutes left on the clock. The young Rankin’s battled hard right until the end but they were unable to claim the win and a semi-final spot. Despite the loss, the young lads can take great heart from their performance on Saturday – they played some great football and despite it being early in the year there are plenty signs that they have an exciting and enjoyable season ahead. Training continues thus Thursday evening at 6.30pm and all players are asked to be in attendance.

U14 Girls
Our U14 girls continue indoor training this Wednesday evening from 7.30pm to 8.45pm at Cloughreagh Community Centre. Please contact Tara Byrne on 07397 540087 for further information.

U10s
Our U10 footballers hosted Whitecross on Saturday afternoon in their first game of 2017. Two pitches were set-up and upwards of 20 kids enjoyed a great game of football on a lovely afternoon. The young Shane’s footballers played some great football throughout both games and thoroughly enjoyed. Many thanks to Whitecross who travelled down to play. Training for the U10s continues on Sunday mornings at 11.00am.

U8s
Training for U8 footballers takes place every Sunday at 11.00am at the field and all players at this age group are asked to attend. All boys and girls at this age group are welcome to come along.

Siúl at the Shane’s
As most of you know we ran a very successful Pave the Way scheme last year which led to the installation of a brilliant concrete driveway in and around the club. To everyone who donated to that scheme we are extremely grateful and a sign will be erected shortly thanking you all.
The next phase of development at the club will see the creation of a floodlit Community Walkway around our main pitch. This project is being partly funded by the Council but the club need to raise a certain amount of funding also and this is where you, our friends and members, can help out.

Siúl at the Shane's is a scheme where people can donate to or sponsor a yard of asphalt as we attempt to raise the necessary funds for the new walkway. The walkway itself will be available for use by the whole community and will give people the opportunity to walk in a safe and friendly environment all year round.

Anyone wishing to make a contribution to the scheme please contact our club chairman, Mick Mackin, on 07746 242231.
