Pride In Newry Awards 2017

The Newry Rainbow Community is delighted to announce that it is hosting the inaugural Pride In Newry Awards ceremony!

The Pride in Newry Awards will recognise and celebrate the positive impact of five years of the Pride In Newry Festival and parade, 2012 – 2016, on the lgb&t community in Newry City and across Newry Mourne and Down District.

These Awards recognise the outstanding contributions of individuals, groups and organisations that have made a difference to the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people over the past five years.

We want to showcase some of the great work, and people, that have over this time greatly increased the visibility, raised awareness and helped to portray lgb&t people in a positive way, breaking down barriers and challenging stereotypes and at the same time promoting a City and District that truly recognises and values diversity.

Thousands of people watch the Pride In Newry parade every year and it is the best ‘shop window’ for community groups, businesses and the organisations and make up the fabric of our society to get across a message of support for equality, inclusion and diversity.

The importance of these awards is that they are voted by our community, and the general public, to celebrate the ‘heroes’ that have challenged homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, are role models for the community and have helped make a difference to the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Nominations for the ten Award Categories are now open!!

We want to hear from you – make your nominations now at this link https://www.prideinnewry.com/awards.html

Successful nominees will be voted on in a public on-line competition, and the Pride In Newry Awards will be presented at a Gala Ceremony on Saturday 11th February 2017, followed by a Valentine’s Ball to celebrate love, in all its forms.
