Sinn Fein's Carál Ní Chuilín has welcomed today's judgement from the High Court on the failure to implement an Irish language strategy.

 

Carál Ní Chuilín said:

 

"I welcome today's judgement from the High Court.

 

"It is long past the time that we had implementation of the commitments made on the Irish Language in successive agreements, including the commitment for an Irish Language Act.

 

"I congratulate the Irish language activists and organisations who brought this case to campaign for their rights.

 

"The Executive has now been told to implement an Irish language strategy and that should be underpinned by an Irish language act, as previously agreed, to protect the rights of Irish language speakers."
