Larkin Meets Residents & Authorities Amid Traffic Concerns in Mullaghbawn
Slieve Gullion Sinn Féin Councillor Mickey Larkin has taken action on road safety in Mullaghbawn following a meeting with members of the local community this week, and ongoing engagement with statutory authorities.

Larkin's on-the-ground efforts, and consistent contact with Transport NI and PSNI in which he raised concerns about a number of recent severe traffic incidents, has been part of an ongoing effort to install traffic calming measures in the area.

Speaking following a meeting with local residents, Larkin said:

"Following a number of incidents of dangerous driving and accidents in the village, in which pedestrians and drivers were injured, I contacted both the PSNI and Transport NI to discuss possible road improvements which would calm traffic and increase road safety.

"At these meetings I requested that both organisations monitor traffic movements and speed through the village.

"I continuously highlighted the dangers made clear by recent events, and urged both agencies to respond and ensure the safety and wellbeing of road users in the village.

"This week I met with residents in Mullaghbawn to update them on these developments, and inform them of my plans to meet with the PSNI and Transport NI again in the near future.

Commending the initiative and organisation taken by the local community in campaigning for traffic improvements, Larkin continued:
"Residents have been concerned for some time about traffic in the village, and had collected signatures on a petition calling for traffic calming measures on their roads.

"It was obvious from the discussion that a number of needs within the village were not being met. These included traffic calming, the installation of a pelican
crossing along the Main Street and increased footpath provision.

"I will be again meeting with the PSNI and Transport NI to ascertain what actions they have taken to date to address the problem. This affects all the residents of the village and I will continue to argue and lobby for investment to tackle the issue."
