UNDER 14s WIN OPENING MATCH AGAINST FERMANAGH
The Down U14 started their championship on Saturday 8th April with a win against Fermanagh played in St Colman’s, Newry. Down had the advantage of a strong wind in the first half and had much of the possession but were wasteful in front of goal. They did produce some excellent passages of play with Fiona Dolan and Orlaith McCusker a constant threat. In midfield Stephanie Hall was dominant and Sara Daly at full back was able to deal with the Fermanagh attacks. In the second half, Fermanagh now had the advantage of the conditions and began to created pressure on the Down defence. Elle Murdock was excellent at half back with team captain Siofra McAteer also moving into the half back line to provide additional cover. Down made a number of changes to the team as the game progressed with all the girls contributing to a great result.  Final Score 5:10 to 5:03. U14 Championship. Round 3 continues Saturday 15th April, Armagh v Down @ Clann Eireann (Paul Swift, Monaghan) @ 3pm.

Down U13 Ladies County Development Team
The Down U13 girls continued their Ulster League campaign by hosting Donegal at the Abbey Grammar School, Newry in glorious sunshine over last weekend. This proved to be a tough affair for the girls against strong running opposition who came out of the blocks very fast to open up an early 6-point lead. The teams then exchanged a number of scores before the Mourne girls opened them up for a second goal just before half time to cut the deficit to 6 points at the interval, with the Down girls playing against the wind in that first period. However, the visitors took the early initiative in the second half by grabbing a three pointer to open up a 9-point lead. The teams again traded scores with the Down girls finishing with two fine goals to get their reward for not giving up. A second game was then held for any of the girls who did not start in the first game and some of these girls really excelled putting in some wonderful individual displays. The girls know that we didn’t reach the heights of the previous performance against Monaghan two weeks ago and the whole camp are very determined to put that right for the next outing away to Fermanagh next Saturday. A big thank you to all the parents for their kind donations of food for the after games refreshments and to all those mothers who helped with the teas etc. Big thanks also to our own Francis Rogan for refereeing the second match. Round 3 continues U13 Development League - Saturday 15th April, Fermanagh v Down @ Brookborough (Garry Gormley, Tyrone) @ 1pm
