Cllr Larkin urges vigilance following Slieve Gullion robberies

Sinn Féin Councillor Mickey Larkin has called for anyone with information regarding the robberies of three cars in Slieve Gullion Forest Park on Wednesday evening to come forward and contact the PSNI.

The thieves, who targeted cars parked in the upper car park on the mountain drive, smashed the windows of several vehicles and looted the contents of each car, and a small blue car was seen driving away from the scene.

Speaking following the robberies, Cllr Larkin urged tourists and the local community to be vigilant of these crimes, and to practice caution when leaving cars unattended:

"On Wednesday evening a number of people were driving and walking the surrounding roads and it is likely that the car and its occupants were observed by several witnesses.

“I would encourage anyone with information to contact the police in order to bring these callous thieves to justice. A number of CCTV cameras also cover the area and I am hopeful that the footage will provide sufficient evidence to prosecute these petty thieves.

“These drive-through thieves are not welcome in South Armagh. The breathtaking scenery in this region attracts day-trippers and tourists from all over the world. We will not allow these mindless crimes discourage people from enjoying what was the most popular tourist attraction in the district in the past year.

“Finally, I would implore visitors and locals to remove valuables from their cars when leaving them unattended. To do otherwise is an invitation for undesirables to pillage. Be vigilant, be safe, and enjoy your visit.”
