Brady address British Labour fringe event

Sinn Féin MP Mickey Brady chaired a meeting on the effect an EU exit will have on Ireland at a fringe event of the British Labour Party Conference in Liverpool on Sunday.

The Newry andArmagh representative joined SinnFein Vice President Mary Lou McDonald TD, Unite the Union Director Simon Dubbins and Labour Party Shadow Secretary of State Dave Anderson on the panel.

Opening the meeting, entitled Brexit: The Cost of Ireland’s Partition, Mr Brady told those assembled that the 56% Remain vote in Ireland must be respected.

“It is clear from the referendum result that the people of Ireland see their future as part of Europe,” he said.

“I personally represent a border constituency and I know the damage that an EU border in Ireland would wreak on people’s livelihoods, general community cohesion and the progress that has been made as part of the Peace Process.”

While attending the fringe event Mr Brady also met with Kurdish, Cuban, Palestinian and Colombian representatives to discuss moves towards peace in those regions.
