All victims and relatives entitled to truth - McCann

Sinn Féin MLA Jennifer McCann said that British government has an obligation to address the legacy of the past.

Ms McCann said:

“The continued failure and refusal to deal with the legacy of the conflict only adds to the hurt and pain suffered by many in our society.

“All relatives and victims are entitled to maximum disclosure of truth in relation to the death of their loved ones.

“There can be no hierarchy of victims when it comes to dealing with the issue of legacy.

"The legacy mechanisms outlined in the Stormont House Agreement must be implemented by the British Government immediately, while facilitating maximum disclosure and information retrieval from all parties to the conflict, including ALL state agencies.

"In addition, they must honour their international obligations by addressing the requirements of the Lord Chief Justice's five year plan to clear the backlog in legacy inquests by providing adequate resources and ensuring full co-operation from key state agencies like the PSNI and the MoD.

"The British Secretary of State James Brokenshire must not attempt to block the search for truth either directly or by conferring a veto to the DUP.

"All commitments made in the Stormont House Agreement must be honoured and implemented in full."
