Blind Cord Safety Workshop

A free workshop to raise awareness of the risks posed to babies and young children by blind cords is being held in South Tyrone Hospital on Wednesday 25th January from 10am – 1pm.

Data from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents indicates that 31 children have died as a result of blind cord accidents in the UK since 1999. The children were aged between 15 months and 36 months. In Ireland there have been eight fatalities, four of which have occurred in the last four years. This tragic type of accident is preventable but without awareness or taking action the risk of further deaths is still very real.

There are still some places available for the workshop. To book a place, please contact Orla Clarke, Promoting Wellbeing Team, St Luke’s Hospital, 71 Loughgall Road, Armagh, BT61 7NQ, Tel: 028 3741 2521 or Email: orlae.clarke@southerntrust.hscni.net

This workshop is designed to suit a wide range of individuals who work with or have contact with families and children. Health professionals or individuals from the statutory, voluntary or community sector; particularly those who have links to families, childcare professionals, concerned parents or relatives who provide informal childcare or have young children visit their home should consider attending this workshop.
