Destination Newry is  a local digital marketing company.  We have created a website to allow the local population to promote their business, their charity, their club, their political party and anything else people would like to promote to the Newry and surrounding area.

You can also post on this website as an individual. This would be good for individuals who may want to sell some household goods, tickets they no long want, look for a lost dog, require a job done in their house etc

Destination Newry has been operating for a number of years and we were the first to bring you streaming of local GAA matches and local TV.  We managed to reach a large audience with chat shows and interviews with local legends.  We hope this website through this website we can continue to benefit the local community.

Over 550 riders will arrive in Rostrevor the first weekend in October for the Red Bull ‘Foxhunt’ Mountain Bike Event.

The event, which is in its seventh year, will see the riders take to the summit of Slieve Martin in an attempt to outrun three cunning ‘foxes’ - some of the world’s fastest mountain bike riders. This year current world champion Loic Bruni, veteran ‘fox’ Gee Atherton and Irish rider and Red Bull athlete, Greg Callaghan will seek to outride and outpace the riders as they tackle the 3.5km of treacherous downhill trails.

Mark Cumming East Coast Adventure, Greg Callaghan 3rd overall in the Enduro World Series 2017 and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Deputy Chairperson, Councillor Oksana McMahon launch the 2018 Foxhunt.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairman, Councillor Mark Murnin said, “I am very pleased to see the return of this mountain bike event to our district. We have some of Ireland’s most beautiful and scenic landscapes and this event showcases our spectacular mountain moorland and terrains.

“This exciting event is not only a highlight for local people, it attracts international visitors and gives them an opportunity to experience what the district has to offer. Epic events such as this help to showcase our diverse ‘outdoor playground’ and put us in pole position to be considered the outdoor capital of Ireland.”

The event will test the skills of both the riders and ‘foxes’ descend through open-mountain moorland, bone-shaking rock gardens and steep forest trails that are guaranteed to challenge even the most capable rider. Reaching speeds in excess of 60km/h, each rider will be battling to cross the line ahead of the three pursuing foxes.

This year’s event has received support from Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Tourism Northern Ireland and Tourism Ireland.

For more information on the ‘Foxhunt’ you can contact Newry Visitor Information Centre at 028 3031 3170

Newry is set to mark Good Relations Week with a number of events taking place in the local area.

Coordinated by the Community Relations Council (CRC), Good Relations Week runs from Monday, 17 September – Sunday, 23 September, with more than 180 events taking place across Northern Ireland.

The initiative, which supports the Northern Ireland Executive’s Together: Building a United Community (T:BUC) strategy, sees government departments, community groups, local councils, charitable organisations and authorities among many other organisers, host a wide range of events from exhibitions, talks, discussions, concerts, workshops and more.

There are several events are taking place in the Newry, Mourne and Down area, organised by Libraries NI, REACT and Rural Community Network, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and Community Arts Partnership.

By using the new goodrelationsweek.com website, residents in Newry can search for events by category, day or by events happening in the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council area to get a taste of what is taking place nearby.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is programming a series of workshops to promote cultural diversity in the council area and challenge prejudiced and racist attitudes. Consisting of 14 sessions covering the interplay between language and culture, the ‘Learn the Language of Your Neighbour’ programme will take place in multiple venues throughout the council area.

On Wednesday, 19 September REACT and Rural Community Network will host its ‘Rebels, Radicals, Royalists and Loyalists’ workshop. Facilitated by Martin Snoddon, from Northern Spring, the workshop aims to invoke a shared understanding of the past with focus on the Easter Rising and WW1 – The Somme.

Jacqueline Irwin, Chief Executive of the Community Relations Council, said, “We have chosen the theme ‘Then, Now…Next?’ to reflect the mood of this year. In April we marked the 20th anniversary of the Good Friday Belfast Agreement, so it has already been a time of reflection and stock-taking. However, the year has also been full of thoughts about the future.

“When the Agreement was signed it would have been impossible to imagine everything that has happened since. In the same way, we cannot assume what the next 20 years may bring. However, we do know this: we shape the future and its possibilities by our actions here and now.

“Through Good Relations Week we showcase events and people who have chosen to build and sustain good relationships across our diverse community. The commitment and willingness to build good community relationships is the fabric of peace and it is changing the way we will share the future.

She added, “We still have some way to go, but every day the groups and organisations showcased during the week continue to work to drive us all forward as one collective community, representing this place in all its diversity. The week is only a snapshot of the work that takes place year-round, and we hope it encourages more people to engage and foster new relationships.”

For more information about events happening in your area, visit goodrelationsweek.com.

You can keep up to date with Good Relations Week 2018 on Facebook and Twitter and by using the hashtag #GRWeek18.

Secretary of State Karen Bradley welcomed the announcement.

“I am delighted to support the announcement of 211 new jobs in Newry, which will generate over £7m annually in additional salaries,” she said.

“It is fantastic to see a significant R&D investment of £5.5m which will also create 26 R&D roles for the business.

“This is brilliant news for Newry and Northern Ireland as a whole.

“Once again, local businesses are making a huge impact on a global scale, with exceptional talent and world-class innovation.”

Alan Clarke, CEO and Co-Founder of STATSports, said the expansion comes as part of an “aggressive” move to break into new markets.

“We have already established our performance monitoring technology with some of the biggest and best known sporting organisations in the world and this investment will allow us to expand our reach even further in both the elite and everyday field sports sector,” he said.

“Our staff are highly skilled and incredibly knowledgeable about the sports performance monitoring industry and we will be replicating that with the additional hires.

“The R&D assistance will also allow us to keep evolving our cutting-edge technology.”
